That Time I Was on Barcelona TV (Against My Will)
Reluctantly in the Spotlight
A friend of mine—well-meaning, I’m sure—arranged for me to be interviewed by a local Barcelona TV company. I can’t say I was thrilled. Honestly, I’d rather be behind the camera than in front of it, but she thought it would be a good opportunity. She’s not the type to set people up for public humiliation, so I went along with it.
The irony? It might have been my fault in the first place.
Victim of My Own Ideas
Earlier this year, I started a personal photo project on people running businesses from their homes or private apartments. TV3 picked up the concept and began contacting some of the people I’d photographed. Then BTV, apparently wanting a more “humble” angle, followed suit—eventually knocking on my own door.
So yes, in a roundabout way, I accidentally pitched myself for TV.
Camera Shy and Slightly Mugged
The interview itself was quick, jarring, and oddly impersonal—like being mugged but with lighting. One minute we were chatting, the next I was wearing a microphone, and then… it was over. I have no memory of what I said, and I’ve still not worked up the nerve to watch the footage they sent me.
Safe to say, fame’s not calling my name anytime soon. And that’s perfectly fine with me.
