Heidi Tsai – Classical Musician at the Montjuïc Funfair
Fast Portraits at the Fairground
Heidi Tsai was the third subject I photographed for the integration series. A classical musician married to a Catalan and living outside the city, she agreed to do the shoot while on a family day out at a funfair on Montjuïc. Not your usual portrait setting, but sometimes the best shots happen on the fly.
Natural Light, Reflectors, and a Bit of Luck
We only had about 20 minutes together, so I worked quickly, taking advantage of the flattering late-afternoon light and using a reflector to fill in where needed. Despite the time crunch, I ended up with quite a few images I liked—many of which worked particularly well in black and white. Heidi was lovely to photograph: relaxed, engaging, and just naturally photogenic. It always helps when the person in front of the lens makes the process feel effortless.
