Rod & Vanessa: Wedding Vows in Montjuïc

Rod & Vanessa Wedding

A Spontaneous Ceremony in the Barcelona Sun
Rod and Vanessa, a Canadian couple visiting Barcelona, contacted me out of the blue. They wanted a few photos to mark their vow exchange—nothing too formal, no specific location in mind. Given the short notice, I suggested Montjuïc. It’s green, shady, and has great views over the city—perfect for something simple and scenic.

Unscripted, Unstructured, Unforgettable
They were a lovely pair—slightly quirky in the best possible way. In a world where couples can sometimes feel overly filtered or curated, their relaxed energy was a welcome change.

We wandered the gardens for a couple of hours, chatting and shooting as we went. No grand setups or elaborate staging, just informal, improvised moments. That’s often when the best images happen.

The Best Kind of Surprise
When I met them again to deliver the photos, they surprised me by offering to pay more than I had quoted. Who ever heard of a wedding photographer getting a tip?

It was a reminder that a genuine connection and a bit of spontaneity can be more memorable than any tightly scheduled wedding day.
